Rajnath Singh inaugurates ₹218 cr second Shakti Engine line as HAL Koraput delivers 2,000th engine
India is stepping up its push for self-reliance in aero-engines, a critical technology for its aerospace ambitions. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh marked HAL Koraput’s delivery of its 2,000th aero-engine and announced the expansion of Shakti engine production with a second manufacturing line at Sunabeda. The ₹218-crore facility will produce up to 100 engines annually and support indigenous helicopters including Dhruv and Prachand. The bigger goal is to build indigenous high-thrust engine capability for programmes such as AMCA, while developing the materials, testing, manufacturing and MRO ecosystem needed for true self-reliance.
