‘Because of the El Nino, we are preparing for not so good monsoon’: Nirmala Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “I don’t know when a tariff can land on me and I have no control over it,” as she highlighted the uncertainty businesses and economies face from global trade and import-related disruptions. Speaking at the Mindmine Summit 2026, she said, “There shouldn’t be a food shortage, but for farmers it’ll have an impact because this year income will be stressed,” while discussing monsoon risks, El Niño concerns and volatility in crude oil and fertilizer supplies.
