      In the budget, a central excise duty exemption has also been provided to CBG that’s blended with natural gas. CBG comes under the ambit of the goods and services tax (GST) but companies end up paying central excise duty as well when they blend the biogas with compressed natural gas (CNG) for further sale since natural gas is not covered by GST. This leads to double taxation, which the budget aims to address. Currently, the blended CBG is available in 12 city gas license areas. More CBG plants are on way, Sitharaman said.
