Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi shared memories of Diwali celebrations from years gone by, recalling family traditions, festive food and the decorations that once lit up the Gandhi residence, in a video posted on X.

The video features Sonia in conversation with her daughter, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, as the two reminisce about how the family celebrated the festival. Priyanka's daughter, Miraya Vadra, also makes an appearance.

Sonia recalled how Diwali was always a special occasion, with diyas lighting up almost every corner of the residence. They would be placed around the pond, along the veranda and across the pathways. At the entrance stood an idol of Lord Ganesh, where the family would light its first diya.

"In those days, we didn't have those little lights everywhere, but we had diyas everywhere," she said, remembering how beautiful the residence looked during the festivities.

Priyanka, too, spoke about the celebrations, recalling how people from different walks of life would visit the residence and gather in its garden during Diwali.

The conversation soon turned to firecrackers. Sonia remembered visiting Chandni Chowk and Old Delhi to buy crackers and phuljharis for the occasion.

She said she particularly enjoyed sparklers but was not as fond of crackers such as anar.

Sonia also reminisced about the weather during Diwali in those years. The skies, she recalled, were clear and blue, something she said was rarely seen these days.

Food was another part of the family's Diwali traditions. Sonia remembered Kashmiri dishes being served during the celebrations, particularly sweet rice, which she said the family continues to enjoy.

Sharing the video on X, Sonia wrote, "Revisiting my early memories of celebrating Diwali - the traditions, the festivities and the little moments that made it so special," while wishing everyone on the occasion of Diwali.
