    Synopsis

The Justice Department indicated that Donald Trump's proposed arch in Washington will face delays. Legal challenges are expected to block the project, complicating its progress. Initial construction will focus on excavation and foundation work over the next six to eight months. Above-ground work is projected to begin no earlier than May of the following year. Overall construction is likely to span 33 to 39 months in total.

WASHINGTON: The Justice Department said Tuesday President Donald Trump's proposed 250-foot (76-meter) triumphal arch in Washington would not be completed until after the end of his second term.

The arch, which is set to be approved as soon as Thursday, faces several legal challenges that are asking a US judge to block the project.

The department expects an initial six to eight months of construction focused exclusively on below-grade excavation and foundation construction, with above-ground construction not expected to begin until May at the earliest. Total construction is anticipated to take 33 to 39 months, the government added.
