Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday reported a 26% year-on-year (YoY) decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,466 crore for the July-September quarter of FY27, compared with Rs 3,349 crore in the year-ago period, even as topline expanded.

Meanwhile, the auto major’s revenue from operations grew around 26% YoY to Rs 53,356 crore during the quarter under review, as against Rs 42,344 crore reported in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year. The shares of the company closed more than 2% higher today.

Maruti Suzuki’s total expenses rose nearly 30% YoY to Rs 50,619 crore during the second quarter of FY27, from Rs 39,018 crore in the same period last year. This came as the cost of materials consumed during the period jumped 48% YoY to Rs 37,489 crore, while employee costs rose 14.5% YoY to Rs 2,351 crore.

The company’s operating profit (EBIT) dropped to Rs 2,804 crore, from Rs 3,382 crore in the year-ago period, due to West Asia conflict-linked commodity increases, it said in a press release. “However, non-operating income declined sharply in Q2 owing to mark-to-market losses on invested surplus,” it added, explaining the rationale behind the sharp drop in profit.

Maruti Suzuki records highest-ever quarterly total sales volume

The company achieved its highest-ever quarterly total sales volume of 6.97 lakh units, registering a growth of 26.5% YoY. Its growth in the domestic passenger vehicle market was broad-based, with small car sales increasing by nearly 40% and SUV sales by more than 68%.

Maruti Suzuki’s domestic market share increased by 2.2 percentage points to 40.8%. Recent capacity additions enabled the company to serve the strong demand, it said. “Even with enhanced production capacity, demand continued to outpace supply, resulting in a low network inventory of about 17 days and pending bookings of about 200,000 units at the end of the quarter.”

In export markets, Maruti Suzuki said it could achieve sales of 108,119 units in Q2 FY27 as compared to 110,487 units in Q2 FY26, despite the challenging geopolitical situation. It recorded its highest-ever net sales of Rs 50,616 crore during the quarter, up from Rs 40,136 crore recorded in the same period last year.
