RBI dismisses social media claims of new CTS cheque book rules from January 1, 2027, calling the message misleading. Existing cheque books remain unchanged.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that new Cheque Truncation System (CTS) cheque books with updated security features will be introduced from January 1, 2027.

The central bank clarified that no changes are being made to the existing CTS cheque books, contrary to messages suggesting that the current cheque books would be replaced after December 31, 2026.

RBI described the claims as factually incorrect and misleading, making it clear that no such change has been announced.

The central bank also advised people to rely only on its official communications for information on cheque-related rules and other banking matters.

The clarification follows the circulation of social media messages claiming that new cheque book standards and security features would come into effect from the beginning of 2027.
