    Make UPI transactions through fingerprints
    Now individuals can approve up to Rs 5,000 UPI transactions without entering a PIN as NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL) has allowed making transactions of up to Rs 5,000 through fingerprint and facial recognition on your smartphone. The initiative, known as Biometric Authentication for UPI Payments on the BHIM Payments App, can be helpful for users who forget their UPI PIN while making a payment through a UPI app.


    How is NPCI BHIM’s new initiative useful for UPI users?

    This makes the process more dependable and seamless in circumstances when consumers don’t remember their PIN or enter it incorrectly, which could result in unsuccessful UPI payments. The feature makes digital payments more user-friendly for daily use in a variety of common payment scenarios, such as online transactions, merchant QR payments and giving money to friends and family.

    What is biometric authentication?

    Biometric authentication is a technology that uses biological traits to confirm a person's identification and enable access to secure systems or locations.
    The new feature allows users to approve UPI transactions up to Rs 5,000 using their smartphone’s fingerprint or facial recognition. This will make everyday payments quicker, simpler and more secure.


    How to enable biometric authentication on BHIM payments app:

    Step 1: Open the BHIM Payments App
    Step 2: Go to Profile
    Step 3: Select your bank account
    Step 4: Activate Biometric Transactions
    Step 5: Now make payments of up to Rs 5,000 with your fingerprint

    What is BHIM?

    Bharat Interface for Money (BHIM) is an app that lets you make simple, easy and quick payment transactions using Unified Payments Interface (UPI). You can make instant bank-to-bank payments and pay and collect money using just your mobile number or the UPI Virtual Payment Address (UPI ID).

    BHIM is not a wallet. It is a payments application that allows users to make instant bank transfers.

    UPI is a simple payment method that allows easy money transfer from one person to another, digitally. It is similar to NEFT or RTGS transfers.

    What are the charges for using the BHIM app?

    You are not charged anything for making transactions on the BHIM app. But you should also check with your respective banks if it is charging anything.

    Does the BHIM app run without the internet?

    Yes. You can dial *99# to avail offline features of the BHIM app on any mobile phone.


    What is a UPI PIN?

    A UPI PIN is a four or six-digit number that is set by customers on the BHIM app after the registration process. UPI PIN is used for authenticating all transactions done on the UPI platform (BHIM or *99# or UPI apps) to ensure secure payments every time you use the BHIM UPI app to make a transaction.


    What methods are available on the BHIM app for sending money?

    BHIM users can send money by using one of the following details of the beneficiary.
    VPA (Registered on UPI)
    Mobile No. (Registered on UPI)
    Account number and the IFS code
