    Property tax overhaul in NDMC: What the new Unit Area System means for you

    NDMC opts against hiking property tax

    The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) presented a projected budget surplus of Rs 240.2 crore and a revenue of Rs 5,069.6 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25. Chairman Amit Yadav outlined a vision to make NDMC an aspirational city and global benchmark. While there's no plan to increase property tax rates, the council aims to boost revenue through property tax, targeting Rs 1,150 crore in FY 2024-25.

    "Consequent to this exercise, the property tax bills are being sent to all the property owners and it is expected that these will be received by all assesses by November 20," a senior civic body official said.

    The action on 39 units in three markets under NDMC and 103 units in SDMC areas were taken on the directions of a Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee.

    However, according to NDMC officials, all the hotels have moved court challenging the tax assessment and any further action by the civic body cannot be taken since the matter is sub-judice.
