    Households are better off than ever but female foeticide continues unabated

    The national census of 2001 and 2011 contained enormously detailed data on sex ratio at birth (SRB) at the district, tehsil and state levels. These showed a shocking level female foeticide. Versus an established global average of 952 girls per 1,000 boys birth, India's SRB in Census 2001 was 915. That fell to 910 in Census 2011. Among significant nations, only China was worse than us.
