Venice will reintroduce its daytripper fee from April 3 to July 26, 2026, covering 60 specific days during the peak tourist season. The charge applies to non-resident visitors who enter the historic city between 8:30 am and 4 pm without staying overnight. Authorities aim to manage high tourist inflow that puts pressure on the city.

    Fee structure and timeline

The fee remains €5 if paid at least four days before arrival. Visitors who delay payment will have to pay €10. The levy will apply on selected dates across April, May, June and July, mostly during weekends and peak travel periods.

The measure expands from 54 days in 2025 to 60 days in 2026, indicating tighter controls on short-term tourist traffic.

Who needs to pay and exemptions

The fee targets day visitors who do not have overnight bookings. Residents, tourists staying in hotels, students, workers, and people born in Venice are exempt.

Visitors with hotel bookings already pay a lodging tax as part of their stay. However, they must still register and obtain an exemption QR code to present at checkpoints across the city.

    How to pay the fee

Travellers must pay the fee online through the official access system before arrival. After payment, they receive a QR code, which authorities may check at entry points across Venice.

The city introduced the system to regulate “hit-and-run” tourism and reduce congestion during peak hours.
