Speaking at a function organized at his official residence on the 79th Foundation Day of the Bureau of Indian Standards in Dehradun on Tuesday, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that over the past eight decades, the Bureau of Indian Standards has accomplished remarkable work in the direction of quality, reliability, and consumer protection, realizing the mantra of "quality is identity."

Chief minister Dhami said that the journey that began in 1947 as the “Bhartiya Manak Sanstha” (Indian Standards Institution) has now become a strong foundation for the country's industrial, scientific, and economic progress. He said that through standardization, certification, and quality testing, the BIS has not only enabled industries to compete globally but has also strengthened the sense of trust and security in the lives of consumers.

He further added that today the scope of standardization is no longer limited to industry, but has expanded to agriculture, health, road safety, energy, water conservation, disaster management, and digital services. According to him, the Bureau of Indian Standards is playing a vital role in shaping the future by setting timely standards in areas such as digital security, medical devices, drones, electric vehicles, recycled materials, and green energy.

Chief minister said the Bureau of Indian Standards is making commendable contributions toward establishing a balance between ecology and economy, in line with the goal of sustainable development. In the state, BIS is coordinating with various departments, including the Public Works Department, Disaster Management, MDDA, and UPCL, to promote awareness and collaborative work related to standardization.

Chief minister Dhami also said that the State Government is also working towards establishing high quality standards for local products, including handicrafts, organic agricultural products, medicinal herbs, and local food products. He stated that the "House of Himalayas" brand has been established with the aim of bringing global recognition to the State's traditional products.
