‘Attacker Neutralised’: Ukraine's Zelenskyy offers condolences after Kyiv shooting leaves 6 dead

Ukrainian police shot dead a gunman who allegedly opened fire on passersby in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district on Saturday before barricading himself inside a supermarket with hostages, refusing to negotiate; the incident left six people dead and 14 injured, including a 12-year-old boy. Authorities are investigating the attack as a terrorist act, with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirming that several victims were killed on the street while another died in hospital. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said special forces stormed the store after failed negotiations lasting around 40 minutes, during which the suspect also fired at police. The attacker, identified as a 58-year-old Moscow native with a criminal record, reportedly used a legally registered weapon and had earlier set fire to his apartment before carrying out the shooting.
