A stampede at the Chor Bagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata on Saturday evening left 17 people dead and 25 injured, including one in critical condition. The incident occurred amid heavy rain and lightning as visitors rushed towards the pandal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice-President and other leaders expressed condolences, while the West Bengal government formed a high-powered committee to investigate the incident.
