Rahul Gandhi urges citizens and student groups to join the November 1 ‘Chalo Dilli’ march at Ramlila Maidan, saying the protest is aimed at protecting democracy and the Constitution.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reiterated his call for the November 1 ‘Chalo Dilli’ march to Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, urging students and citizens across political affiliations to join the protest against alleged voter irregularities and to protect the Constitution.

In a post on X, Gandhi described the march as one aimed at saving democracy, stopping ‘vote chori’ and protecting the Constitution, asserting that it was not a programme of any one political party but a movement for the “soul of India”.

“This is not a march of any one political party, this is a march for the soul of India,” Gandhi said, calling on people who were “fed up” with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to participate.

He urged citizens concerned about democracy and constitutional safeguards to join the protest, saying it was a collective movement for the country.

“Don't worry about the police, don't worry about lathis,” Gandhi said, adding that the BJP would not have the “guts” to attempt any such action.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha also appealed to student groups, irrespective of their political affiliations, to join the march.

“If you feel that India is under attack, if you feel you are under attack, your expression, your ideas, your way of thinking is under attack, come and join us,” he said.

Gandhi said the march would bring people together to protect the Constitution and the Indian nation, adding that there was no need to be afraid.

The November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan is part of the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s campaign against alleged electoral irregularities and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists.

The Opposition has alleged that genuine voters have been removed from electoral rolls and has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The Congress has said the rally will mark the culmination of a ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and has claimed that at least 10 lakh people are expected to participate.

The party has been mobilising leaders and workers across states for the event, with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other INDIA bloc leaders urging people to join the campaign.

The march and rally are expected to intensify the Opposition’s campaign against alleged ‘vote chori’ and its demand for accountability from the Election Commission.
