    All about McDonald’s McRib

The McRib has an interesting history. Its creation is credited to chef René Arend, who also played a key role in developing Chicken McNuggets.

First introduced in 1981 in Kansas City, the McRib was developed using restructured-meat technology. The work of University of Nebraska professor Roger Mandigo contributed to the technology used to produce the sandwich.

McDonald’s discontinued the McRib in 1985 before bringing it back in 1989. Since 2006, the fast-food chain has frequently offered the sandwich as a limited-time item, helping build anticipation around its return. However, the McRib is regularly available at McDonald’s restaurants in Germany and Luxembourg, according to Wikipedia.

What is McDonald’s McRib made of?

The McRib features a boneless pork patty shaped to resemble a rack of ribs. Despite its appearance, the patty contains no rib bones.

Its listed ingredients include pork, water, salt, dextrose and rosemary extract. The sandwich is served on a bun with barbecue sauce, pickles and onions.

According to McDonald’s US nutrition information, the McRib contains 520 calories per sandwich.
