Sensex Highlights | Nifty 50 Highlights: The Indian stock market extended its sharp rally on Tuesday, with the Sensex and Nifty gaining nearly 2% each as easing crude oil prices, growing expectations of a possible LTCG tax rejig and other factors lifted investor sentiment.
The Sensex surged 1,225 points to close at 76,918, while the Nifty 50 climbed 370 points to settle at 23,811. The rally added nearly Rs 4 lakh crore to the combined market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies, taking it to nearly Rs 487 lakh crore.
Among individual stocks, Hindustan Unilever, Bharti Airtel and HDFC Bank gained around 4% each. Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, ICICI Bank and ITC advanced nearly 3% apiece. In contrast, SBI and Power Grid bucked the broader trend, declining around 2% each.

Commodities Market Updates | Aluminium futures down on weak demand
- Aluminium prices fell marginally by Rs 3.15 to Rs 328.15 per kg in futures trade on Tuesday as participants trimmed their positions amid a weak trend in spot markets.
- On the Multi Commodity Exchange, aluminium for delivery in November fell by Rs 3.15, or 0.95 per cent, to Rs 328.15 per kg in a business turnover of 540 lots.
- Analysts said participants cutting down positions due to easing demand from consuming industries mainly kept aluminium prices lower.

- Zinc prices fell Rs 7.65 to Rs 410.40 per kilogram in futures trade on Tuesday as speculators reduced exposure, tracking negative cues in the spot market.
- On the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc contracts for November delivery fell by Rs 7.65, or 1.83 per cent, to Rs 410.40 kg in a business turnover of 1,473 lots.
- Analysts said the trimming of positions by participants, owing to slackened demand from consuming industries in the physical market, mainly weighed on zinc prices.

- Copper prices fell by Rs 30.75 to Rs 1,361.20 per kilogram in futures trade on Tuesday amid muted demand in the domestic spot market.
- On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), the copper contract for November delivery slipped by Rs 30.75, or 2.21 per cent, to Rs 1,361.20 per kg in 4,717 lots.
- Traders said subdued domestic demand from consuming industries weighed on the red metal's prices in futures trade.

Amid a growing chorus on Dalal Street to cut long-term capital gains tax (LTCG) to lure back foreign investors after a record $64 billion selloff over the past two years, analysts warn that the proposed relief may attract only $3-5 billion of fresh inflows, far too little to reverse the exodus on its own.
