Jailer 2 is showing no signs of slowing down at the box office since its theatrical release on October 15. The action drama starring Rajinikanth and directed by Nelson Dilipkumar has created history by becoming the highest grossing Tamil film ever, beating 2.0. The movie is now inching closer to the Rs 750 crore milestone at the worldwide box office.

Jailer 2 box office collection day 12

According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, Jailer 2 collected Rs 9.45 crore net in India on Day 12, taking its total domestic net collection to Rs 408.15 crore. With its overseas earnings continuing to contribute to the overall total, the Rajinikanth-starrer has reached Rs 733.35 crore worldwide.

Jailer 2 recorded a total of Rs 9.45 crore net in India on its 12th day in theatres, according to Sacnilk.com. The film registered these earnings across 10,450 shows in different languages.

The Tamil version led the collections with Rs 5.65 crore from 4,518 shows. The Telugu version collected Rs 2 crore from 1,771 shows and the Hindi version Rs 1.40 crore from 3,949 shows. The Kannada version grossed Rs 40 lakh from 212 shows.

With this, the film’s total gross collection in India now stands at Rs 477.85 crore and the domestic net collection at Rs 408.15 crore.

The film has also maintained a strong overseas presence. It earned Rs 2.50 crore from international markets on Day 12, taking its total overseas gross collection to Rs 255.50 crore. Its worldwide gross collection now stands at Rs 733.35 crore, putting it within striking distance of the Rs 750 crore mark.

Jailer 2 beats 2.0 to become the highest-grossing Tamil film

Jailer 2 achieved a major box office milestone on Sunday when it surpassed the worldwide collection of Rajinikanth's 2.0. The 2018 science-fiction film had earned Rs 691 crore worldwide, holding the record for the highest-grossing Tamil film for eight years.

Before overtaking 2.0, the sequel had already surpassed the lifetime worldwide collections of its predecessor, Jailer, which earned Rs 604 crore, and Vijay's Leo, which collected Rs 605 crore.

Jailer 2 also crossed the Rs 700 crore worldwide mark on Sunday, becoming the first Kollywood film to reach the milestone. It is the seventh South Indian film and the 18th Indian film overall to achieve this feat.

With its worldwide collection now at Rs 733.35 crore, the action drama is closing in on another major milestone. If its theatrical run continues at a steady pace, the film could soon enter the Rs 750 crore club.

Jailer 2: Cast, story and crew

Jailer 2 also marks the reunion of the filmmaker and Rajinikanth after the duo collaborated in the 2023 hit, Jailer. This sequel is a big deal in the superstar's filmography, as he has turned down sequels to many of his successful movies in the past.

In the latest movie, Rajinikanth returns as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, the character who became popular with audiences in the first film. This time, the veteran actor's character faces a new set of antagonists as the story continues.

Produced by Sun Pictures, the film features an ensemble cast that includes SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa Menon. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.

Stay tuned to see how it performs over the second week.
