Mercedes-Maybach S 580e launches in India with only 30 units on offer: Check price, full features list

Mercedes-Benz India on Monday launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e plug-in hybrid at Rs 3.35 crore, with only 30 units on offer at launch. The company said in a press statement that it is the first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) in the Maybach range in India.

The limousine pairs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Combined output is 585 hp and 750 Nm, delivered through a 9G-TRONIC transmission. The engine makes 443 hp and 560 Nm, while the motor adds 160 hp and 480 Nm. The car goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said, "We are seeing rising demand for Plug-In-Hybrid among our top-end customers, and the Maybach S 580e combines the timeless exclusivity, handcrafted luxury and iconic luxury of a Maybach with the convenience of a plug-in hybrid technology." He added that with ICE, BEV and PHEV models, the company can offer a range of luxury mobility choices.

Range and charging

The 22 kWh (usable) battery gives a WLTP-certified electric range of up to 98 km. The company says this can stretch to about 100 km in real-world driving. The car can run on electric power alone at up to 140 km/h.

It has Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold drive modes. Energy recuperation is adjustable and includes one-pedal driving.

Charging is at up to 11 kW on AC and up to 60 kW on DC. Every car comes with a complimentary home charging solution, and owners get access to public stations through MB.Charge. The company puts its WLTP-certified weighted combined fuel efficiency at 34.48 kmpl. It notes that actual range depends on driving conditions, temperature and usage.

Features and interior

India gets the S 580e only in a four-seat First Class rear configuration. The rear cabin has individual executive seats, a full-length business console, wireless charging, temperature-controlled cup holders and folding tables.

The Rear Comfort Package Plus adds adaptive ambient lighting, climatised seats, rear wireless charging and rear MBUX controls. An Energizing Package with calf massage and Automatic Comfort Doors are also offered.

The audio system is a Burmester 4D setup with 31 speakers, eight exciters and 1,610 watts of output. It supports Dolby Atmos and comes with wireless headphones for rear-seat entertainment.

Up front, the car runs on the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS). It gets the MBUX Superscreen with a front-passenger display that has a privacy function, a 3D driver display, augmented reality, a head-up display and navigation.

The cabin uses MANUFAKTUR Exclusive Two-Tone and Maybach Exclusive Nappa leather finishes in crystal white and silver-grey pearl. Other details include piano lacquer trim, a Nappa leather roof liner, and a key in high-gloss white with rose-gold detailing. Outside, the car gets an illuminated Maybach grille, a ground logo projection and illuminated door sills.

Safety and ride

The car has 15 airbags and PRE-SAFE Impulse and Impulse Side systems. It also gets GUARD 360° Vehicle Protection Plus for theft prevention and intrusion detection.

MB.Drive Assist offers Level 2 driver assistance, including Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Steering Assist. DIGITAL LIGHT with Adaptive High-beam Assist Plus is standard.

The cloud-based AIRMATIC air suspension uses real-time navigation data to adapt damping. Rear-axle steering can turn up to 10 degrees to reduce the turning circle. An Acoustic Presence Indicator adds a subtle exterior sound at low speeds in electric mode.
