- Born in a family of politicians who represented Hyderabad for a long time, Asaduddin Owaisi went to the famous Hyderabad Public School and St. Mary's Junior College. After graduating in arts from Nizam College under Osmania University, he went to London to study law
- By profession, he is a lawyer and Barrister-at-Law from London's renowned Lincoln’s Inn
- Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was founded in 1927 to promote the development of Muslims but it was banned in 1948 after Hyderabad state's accession to the Indian Union
- In 1958, his grandfather Maulana Abdul Wahid Owaisi revived it as a political party, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), to fight for the rights of the minorities as enshrined in the Indian Constitution
- Asaduddin was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly first in 1994 and then in 1999 from the Charminar constituency in Hyderabad
- He contested and won the Hyderabad constituency in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections after his father refused to contest, citing poor health. He has since won the seat four times
- The Hyderabad MP was elected as the president of AIMIM after his father died in 2008. The party developed all-India ambitions after he became its leader
- He has expanded the party's base in other states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
- Under his leadership, AIMIM contested local elections in Maharashtra in 2012 and Karnataka in 2013, winning several seats. In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh civic body elections, it won 31 of 78 seats it contested. In the 2019 general elections, AIMIM won its first Parliamentary seat out of Hyderabad in Aurangabad in Maharashtra
- In the 2020 Bihar assembly elections, where Owaisi campaigned aggressively, AIMIM won five seats (it contested 20) in the Muslim-dominated Seemanchal region. However, his party could not bag any seat in the West Bengal Assembly elections in 2021
- In March 2021, Owaisi went to Gujarat and campaigned for the civic body polls; AIMIM won 17 seats in three municipalities in the state and snatched the Godhra civic body from BJP
- In the politically crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, AIMIM under Owaisi plans to contest from 100 seats in the 2022 Assembly elections
- He has taken on the Narendra Modi government on various issues such as the triple talaq Bill, CAA, building the Ram Temple, Pegasus snoopgate, farm laws, cow vigilantism and UAPA Act
- In 2019, the AIMIM chief ripped a copy of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament to highlight his protest, inviting sharp reactions from the treasury benches
